FAQ
I heard it will increase my soreness. I’m already too sore to be getting “jerked” around.
No worries…we don’t believe in the “No Pain, No Gain” myth. You will not necessarily be “jerked around” on. Our treatment is very gentle and specifically designed to speed the healing of the injured and damaged joints, not to cause them to hurt more. Simply put…We wouldn’t be in business seeing so many patients if they weren’t feeling better after our treatments, not worse.
My Attorney said that Chiropractic cases aren’t worth that much in court.
Totally untrue. In fact, they may actually be worth more if you have an attorney that understands these cases and how to try them in a court of law. Unfortunately, in too many cases this is about all most attorneys are worried about. Your health is the least of their worries. Their only interest is the financial outcome of the case, not your injury recovery. What many of them mean to say is that it is best to see more than one doctor to confirm and agree upon the extent of your injuries, especially if you may need concurring treatment. If you have an attorney that tells you anything to the contrary….Run!!!
There was very little visible damage to my car, Why am I still hurting so bad?
Studies show that in most cases, property damage is in fact, inversely proportionate to occupant damage. This is especially true of today’s auto engineering with shock attenuating bumper systems and adjustable headrests. Much like two billiard balls striking each other, there is no damage to the ball, but the physics and energy of the collision is expressed in the acceleration and “karooming” of the ball being struck. In these cases, the spine of the occupant is what is being thrust forward with sudden and violent accelerations causing significant joint and tissue injury. This type of injury tends to linger and come and go until in many cases, turning chronic and causing irreversible damage.
Can these injuries get better then come back down the road?
Absolutely!!! And studies show…4 times out of 5, they do. Most people simply go to the emergency room or to their family doctor and are told to take medications and it will eventually heal. These doctors are typically not familiar with the treatment and prognosis of these types of injuries unless there are lacerations, broken bones, etc…As a result, the drugs mask the symptoms then 6 month later, the pain and limitations are back to stay. These injuries will in most cases, heal with diffuse scar tissue and mechanical weaknesses within the spine. This leads to scar tissue, calcium deposits, and bone spurs down the road. This is very painful and worst of all, permanent. The fact remains, Chiropractors are the most versed physicians when it comes to the management and treatment of these injuries, thereby minimizing or eliminating any possibility of long term complications.
Should I wait for a couple of weeks to see if it goes away on its own?
As with any other human ailment, time is of the essence in the healing process. In the case of these specific auto injuries, you have a small window of opportunity for the healing process to occur correctly. Studies show that internal scar tissue begins to form within 72 hrs of injury. To wait 3-4 weeks after an injury is to take a chance on permanent damage occurring during the healing process. The sooner you get your condition addressed and treated appropriately, the sooner you are back on your feet doing the things you enjoyed doing before the accident, without limitations and pain.
My Insurance said that they wouldn’t cover Chiropractic treatment.
It is against the law for an insurance company not to pay for any and all medically reasonable tests and\or treatment that prove to be related to an automobile injury. This may be a case in which an attorney is needed. We specialize in specific documentation proving the causal relationship to an accident if in fact it is related to begin with. It is true that you may have had some pre-existing health issues before the accident that may or may not have been worsened by the trauma. This should not adversely impact the outcome of your case provided we can show where the injury exacerbated the condition and we treat you only according to those exacerbations, not what was there before. ***Please note, if you have had a long list of similar injuries and were functioning with significant limitations at the time of this accident, your condition may very well be impossible to delineate. This is rare however, and we can usually make this determination before beginning treatment.
Do I have to keep coming back even after I am better?
No! In fact, our objective is to get you to the point where you no longer need us. Although at first you may need a higher frequency of back-to-back treatments, as you improve we taper your treatment down until you have reached what is determined to be Maximum Medical Improvement and your condition is considered permanent and\or stationary. This essentially means once you get to a point where you are no longer improving with the care, or not getting worse, your condition is determined to be at the point where we release you from care, whether you continue to have residual symptoms and limitations or not. With timely chiropractic care, this is usually sooner than later.
Do I need an attorney?
You may and you may not. In some cases attorneys help, in others, well quite frankly they interfere.
Many times attorneys will try to give medical advice and direct you to sources that are only in their best interest, not that of your health.
After 15 yrs of being in practice and treating thousands of personal injury cases, we have run the gamut of the good attorneys and the not so good ones. Unfortunately, there are more of the latter.
First and foremost you will need to find one that doesn’t mind going to trial. Too many only want the cut and dry “broken bone” case or even worse, the paralyzed and death cases. Consequently, your case may get pushed off to a paralegal the whole time.
Through positive experiences shared with us by our patients, we know who the better ones are and can provide you a list of reputable attorneys for you to choose. Being that a large part of our practice specializes in assisting patients in the recovery process, we understand what you are going through and, in most cases, can at least give you our opinion based on a long list of past experiences.
